Senior Account Manager

Overview

The Senior Account Manager is a strategic client partner responsible for leading medical affairs-focused communication programs, ensuring high scientific standards, strong client relationships, and seamless delivery across multiple workstreams. This role serves as a primary liaison between clients and internal cross‑functional teams, guiding projects from concept through execution while supporting long‑term account growth.

Key Responsibilities

Client Leadership & Strategy

  • Serve as the primary day‑to‑day contact for medical affairs clients, building trusted, consultative partnerships
  • Understand client objectives across medical strategy, evidence communication, and stakeholder engagement
  • Provide proactive strategic guidance aligned with scientific, regulatory, and compliance requirements
  • Anticipate client needs and identify opportunities for expanded support or new initiatives

Account & Program Management

  • Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of multiple medical affairs programs, ensuring timelines, scope, and budgets are met
  • Oversee integrated deliverables such as scientific platforms, publications support, medical education materials, advisory boards, congress activities, and training resources
  • Manage project plans, resourcing, and risk mitigation across complex accounts
  • Ensure all work meets internal quality standards and external regulatory and compliance guidelines

Cross‑Functional Collaboration

  • Partner closely with medical writers, editors, scientific leads, design, and project management teams
  • Facilitate effective internal communication to maintain alignment on priorities, expectations, and deliverables
  • Translate complex scientific content into clear strategic direction for internal teams

Financial & Operational Oversight

  • Own account financials, including forecasting, budget tracking, and reconciliation
  • Support proposal development, scope definition, and contract amendments
  • Monitor account performance and profitability, escalating risks as appropriate

Mentorship & Leadership

  • Mentor and support junior account team members, fostering professional development and best practices
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives and departmental ways of working
  • Act as a role model for client service excellence, collaboration, and accountability

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in life sciences, health sciences, communications, or a related field
  • 3-5+ years of experience in medical communications, medical affairs, or a related agency or consultancy environment
  • Proven experience managing pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or healthcare accounts
  • Strong understanding of medical affairs functions, scientific communication standards, and compliance considerations
  • Excellent client‑facing, communication, and organizational skills
