Founding Biochemical Engineer
Biochemical Engineer - Wet Lab & Modeling
About The Team
A pioneering biotech startup on a mission to solve one of science's most ambitious challenges: the reversible, long-term preservation of organs and bodies.
The goal is to develop the world's first scientifically validated cryopreservation system capable of revival; starting with organs and tissues, and ultimately extending to whole-body preservation. The team is combining hands-on biochemical experimentation, custom cryoprotectant design, and advanced computational modeling to enable real biological recovery.
Led by a founder with two successful exits and backed by full early-stage funding, this is a rare opportunity to help shape the future of biomedical science, with founder-level equity and full operational support.
The Role
The founder is looking for a driven and hands-on biochemical engineer with a passion for both wet-lab experimentation and computational modeling. In this role, you'll work alongside senior cryonics researchers on mouse and organ-based cryopreservation studies, while also leading simulation efforts to optimize chemical, thermal, and biological parameters.
This is an ideal opportunity for an early-career scientist or engineer who thrives in a fast-paced, experimental environment and wants to make a direct impact on real-world protocols.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and refine cryoprotectant (CPA) chemical formulations with a focus on toxicity, permeability, and vitrification
- Conduct mouse-based and ex vivo organ experiments, including perfusion, cryopreservation, rewarming, and viability assessments
- Collaborate closely with experienced wet-lab scientists to iterate and validate experimental protocols
- Develop and run simulation models (using Python, MATLAB, COMSOL, or similar tools) to optimize CPA transport, thermal gradients, and biological outcomes
- Integrate experimental and modeling data to improve end-to-end cryopreservation workflows
- Maintain rigorous, reproducible lab records to support intellectual property and research development
Who You Are
- Hold a BS, MS, or PhD in biochemistry, chemical biology, cryobiology, or biomedical/chemical engineering
- Have 1-5 years of hands-on experience in chemical formulation, tissue/organ handling, and cryopreservation
- Comfortable working with animal models (mice preferred)
- Proficient in scientific programming or modeling (Python, MATLAB, R, C++, Julia, COMSOL, etc.)
- Familiar with optimization tools, simulation platforms, or physics-informed modeling approaches
- Energetic, self-motivated, and eager to grow within a dynamic scientific team
- Thrive in a collaborative, multidisciplinary lab environment
What We Offer
- Full relocation assistance and visa sponsorship for candidates
- Founder-level equity and a competitive salary
- Fully funded operations with in-house lab and computing infrastructure
- The freedom to explore, experiment, and help invent first-in-the-world science
- A mission-driven, ambitious team committed to advancing cryonics and life-saving biopreservation
