About the Opportunity
A rapidly growing biopharmaceutical organization is seeking a Regional Director, Field Medical Affairs to lead its East Region field medical team. This is a high-impact leadership role responsible for driving scientific engagement, overseeing a team of Medical Science Liaisons, and serving as a key partner across Medical Affairs, Commercial, and other cross-functional functions.
The ideal candidate will bring strong Medical Affairs leadership experience, a proven track record of building external scientific relationships, and expertise within ophthalmology, eye care, or a related therapeutic area.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of MSLs across the Eastern U.S.
- Foster a collaborative, high-performing, and patient-focused culture.
- Establish territory objectives, performance expectations, and development plans.
- Conduct performance reviews and provide ongoing coaching and mentorship.
Medical Affairs Strategy
- Contribute to the development and execution of field medical strategy.
- Provide scientific and strategic input into educational initiatives and future product planning.
- Ensure the field team remains current on emerging scientific data and clinical developments.
- Identify unmet educational needs and opportunities to enhance disease state awareness.
External Scientific Engagement
- Provide oversight of strategic interactions with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), healthcare professionals, researchers, and other external stakeholders.
- Support participation in scientific congresses, advisory boards, and medical meetings.
- Help gather and synthesize field insights to inform broader organizational strategy.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner closely with Commercial, Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, Regulatory, and Medical Operations teams.
- Ensure alignment between field medical activities and organizational priorities.
- Support compliant collaboration across internal stakeholders.
Qualifications
- PharmD, PhD, MD, OD, or equivalent
- 10+ years of Medical Affairs, clinical, or scientific leadership experience.
- 5+ years of management experience, including leadership of MSL teams.
- Demonstrated success building relationships with KOLs and healthcare professionals.
- Strong leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Experience in Ophthalmology, Eye Care, Optometry, or a related therapeutic area.
