Global Business Development Manager

A global organization is seeking an experienced Global Business Development Manager to lead worldwide sales and market expansion for an aseptic and non-aseptic lyophilization equipment portfolio. This is a player-coach role, combining direct responsibility for driving new business with leadership of a team of sales and subject matter experts.

The position focuses on selling high-value pharmaceutical lyophilization systems to customers across biopharma, biotech, diagnostics, and related life sciences markets. The role is accountable for driving large, complex capital equipment deals, leading commercial efforts, executing strategy, and building a sustainable global pipeline.

The ideal candidate brings a strong background in aseptic processing, a proven track record of developing global pipelines and closing major transactions, and the leadership capability to grow into broader management responsibilities. This position is remote within North America and requires international travel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive global revenue growth across aseptic and non-aseptic lyophilization portfolios, with accountability for closing complex, high-value capital equipment deals.
  • Define and execute global commercial strategy for lyophilization systems, including expertise in cycle development, formulation, CIP/SIP systems, and sterility assurance.
  • Act as a senior commercial and technical authority across aseptic and non-aseptic systems, including regulatory frameworks, cleanroom environments, isolators, validation strategies, and risk management.
  • Lead the sale of integrated system solutions, positioning the organization as a full-solution partner.
  • Apply knowledge of computerized systems and validation practices to support compliant system design and customer confidence.
  • Build and manage a robust global pipeline, including forecasting, financial modeling, and business case development.
  • Engage senior stakeholders across engineering, manufacturing, quality, procurement, and executive leadership to influence complex decisions and close strategic opportunities.
  • Lead and develop a team of commercial subject matter experts, ensuring alignment with business goals.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, product, project management, manufacturing, and service teams to ensure viable and compliant solutions.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Maintain strong knowledge of biologics, vaccines, sterile drug products, and market dynamics.
  • Monitor competitive landscape and evolving market needs, adjusting strategy accordingly.
  • Support global sales teams with deal strategy, technical guidance, and customer engagement.
  • Represent the organization at industry events, workshops, and strategic engagements.

Experience / Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in pharmaceutical, biopharma, or life sciences capital equipment or systems.
  • Proven success closing large, complex, multimillion-dollar deals.
  • Experience building and converting global sales pipelines.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements impacting aseptic systems.
  • Understanding of computerized systems, controls, and validation in regulated environments.
  • Experience with integrated system solutions (e.g., lyophilizers, automation, material handling).
  • Ability to engage senior stakeholders confidently.
  • Experience in a player-coach role.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, life sciences, or related field.
  • Willingness to travel globally (30-50%).
