Development Engineer

The Development Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and implementation of new products and processes from concept through release. This role works cross‑functionally with engineering, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and regulatory teams to ensure products meet technical requirements, quality standards, cost targets, and schedule commitments. The Development Engineer applies sound engineering principles, structured problem‑solving methods, and data‑driven decision making to translate customer and business requirements into robust, manufacturable solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Product & Process Development

  • Develop and refine product designs from concept through production release.
  • Translate customer, market, and regulatory requirements into engineering specifications.
  • Support design for manufacturability, testability, reliability, and cost.
  • Create and maintain engineering documentation, including drawings, specifications, and design records.

Engineering Analysis & Problem Solving

  • Perform engineering analyses to support design decisions, including tolerance analysis, material selection, and performance trade studies.
  • Identify technical risks and develop mitigation strategies early in development.
  • Lead or support root cause analysis and resolution of technical issues encountered during development, pilot builds, or early production.

Verification, Validation, and Testing

  • Define and execute engineering tests to verify design requirements and performance.
  • Support validation of products and processes in accordance with applicable standards and internal procedures.
  • Analyze test data and document results to support engineering and business decisions.

Cross‑Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and regulatory teams to ensure successful product launches.
  • Support design transfer activities, including pilot builds and production ramp‑up.
  • Assist in managing engineering changes and evaluating their technical impact.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve product performance, manufacturability, reliability, or cost.
  • Apply structured problem‑solving and continuous improvement tools as appropriate.
  • Support lessons‑learned activities and knowledge sharing across projects.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Biomedical, Manufacturing, or related discipline).
  • 2-7 years of experience in product development, process development, or engineering roles (level dependent).
  • Experience working in a regulated or structured manufacturing environment preferred.

Technical Skills

  • Solid understanding of engineering fundamentals and design principles.
  • Experience creating and interpreting engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Familiarity with CAD tools and engineering documentation systems.
  • Working knowledge of industry standards, quality systems, or regulatory requirements (as applicable to the industry).
  • Ability to analyze and interpret test and development data.
