Machine Vision Engineer

EPM Scientific are partnered with a leading MedTech client to hire a Machine Vision Engineer, supporting development of Vision Systems on site for inspection of incoming and outgoing goods.

This is an initial 12 month, full time role, primarily on site, with a view of long term collaboration if aligned

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, procure, assemble, and test machine vision inspection systems for a flagship Proof-of-Concept project.
  • Develop and optimise machine vision solutions for inspection, classification, OCR, marking verification, and anomaly detection applications.
  • Configure and specify cameras, lenses, lighting, filters, industrial PCs, and associated vision hardware.
  • Develop solutions using Cognex VisionPro, Cognex Designer, and Cognex Deep Learning Studio.
  • Manage image datasets, labelling workflows, model training, validation, and deployment activities.
  • Support the full project lifecycle from feasibility and proof-of-principle through design, development, testing, and deployment.
  • Produce technical documentation, validation protocols, and project reports.
  • Present findings and recommendations to stakeholders and support integration into automated manufacturing systems.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Strong coding, software development, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven experience designing and developing industrial machine vision systems.
  • Hands-on experience with Cognex VisionPro, Cognex Designer, and Cognex Deep Learning Studio.
  • Strong understanding of image acquisition, lighting techniques, lens selection, contrast, resolution, exposure, and optical filtering.
  • Experience developing solutions for classification, OCR, marking verification, and anomaly detection.
  • Dataset creation, labelling, management, model training, validation, deployment, and performance evaluation experience.
  • Experience specifying and assembling industrial PCs and vision hardware.
  • Knowledge of vision station design and integration into wider automated manufacturing platforms.
  • Experience delivering vision projects through the full lifecycle, from feasibility and proof of concept to deployment.
  • Strong project management, budget management, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Experience working cross-functionally with automation, manufacturing, quality, operations, and system integration teams.
  • Experience creating technical and validation documentation, including URS, FDS, DQ, IQ, OQ, and MSA.
  • Understanding of GxP, ISO 13485, 21 CFR Part 11, and risk management principles.
  • Manufacturing experience supporting inspection processes and labelling accuracy/consistency initiatives.
