Contract Software Engineer - QA Tool (OpenIGTLink / Networking)

Overview
We are seeking an experienced Software Engineer to support the development of a QA Tool based on OpenIGTLink, focused on capturing and processing tracking and network data streams.
This tool is used within NDP (New Product Development) as well as externally by universities and research partners, making it both an internal QA utility and a user-facing application.
This is not a regulated medical device role, allowing for a strong engineering focus without heavy compliance overhead.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and enhance a network-based QA tool for capturing and analysing tracking data
- Work with real-time data streams (logging, recording, structuring and delivery)
- Build functionality to record and manage network traffic data safely
- Support usage in testing environments and NDP workflows
- Contribute to a tool used by external stakeholders (e.g., universities and researchers)
- Quickly get up to speed and deliver within a short-term engagement
Core Skills & Experience
Essential
- Strong experience with network programming concepts
- TCP / UDP
- Sockets, ports, data streaming
- Proficient in Python (primary language of the tool)
- Ability to work with network data capture, logging, and structuring
- Experience working with data streams and real-time systems
- Strong hands-on coding ability (detail-oriented execution role)
- Comfortable delivering in a fast-paced, short-term contract environment
Desirable
- Experience with C/C++ (for understanding system interfaces and protocol structures)
- Familiarity with OpenIGTLink or similar medical/research data protocols
- Exposure to research, academic, or data-sharing environments
