Quality Laboratory Chemist (2nd Shift)

Roles and Responsibilities

Testing

  • Perform release, stability, and special request testing of finished products and raw material samples in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs), internal test methods, and/or compounding standards.
  • Independently execute assigned laboratory methods and procedures accurately and as written, with minimal supervision.

Teamwork

  • Remain flexible and adaptable to changes in testing schedules and evolving laboratory processes.
  • Assist with training new laboratory personnel and document training activities in alignment with established laboratory procedures and training requirements.
  • Collaborate effectively with laboratory colleagues and cross‑functional partners.

Safety

  • Maintain a safety‑first mindset and awareness while working in laboratory environments.
  • Ensure a safe work environment and verify that laboratory equipment is properly calibrated and maintained according to procedures.

General Responsibilities

  • Train on and operate laboratory instrumentation, including but not limited to:
    • Laboratory balances
    • High‑performance liquid chromatography (HPLC)
    • Gas chromatography (GC)
    • Automated titrators
    • FTIR
    • UV/Vis spectrophotometers
    • Polarimeters
    • Dissolution and disintegration equipment
  • Learn and apply additional instrumentation and test methods as required.
  • Execute special projects assigned by management while balancing routine testing responsibilities and meeting established deadlines.
  • Remain current on guidance and publications from regulatory and standards organizations to ensure laboratory compliance with analytical, specification, and documentation expectations.
  • Maintain knowledge and competency related to accredited test methods where applicable.
  • Assist with investigations related to out‑of‑specification (OOS) results when assigned, following established laboratory procedures.
  • Perform additional duties as needed in support of organizational and laboratory objectives.
  • Communicate clearly with other departments and function effectively within a team setting.
  • Maintain reliable and regular attendance.
  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail and basic analytical/problem‑solving skills.

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, and reach for extended periods.
  • Ability to stand or walk for a minimum of eight hours.
  • Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to bend, squat, and use both hands and arms to perform laboratory tasks.
  • Ability to climb stairs as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least one year of laboratory experience, preferably in a regulated or cGMP environment.
  • Prior experience operating analytical laboratory instrumentation, particularly gas chromatography (GC) and/or liquid chromatography (LC), preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, self‑motivation, and the ability to work effectively with personnel at all levels.
  • Proficiency with basic mathematical calculations (fractions, decimals, and commercial arithmetic) and standard written communication skills (grammar, spelling, punctuation).

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or a related field.
  • Concentrations such as Biochemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, or Polymer Chemistry are preferred.
