Computational Structural Biologist

Title: Computational Structural Biologist

Location: Maryland, USA

Salary: $100,000-$130,000

Overview:

EPM Scientific is currently partnering with a pioneering biotech company at the forefront of membrane protein research and molecular modeling. With a mission to decode the structural and dynamic behavior of complex biological systems, this organization blends cutting-edge computational tools with experimental validation to drive innovation in therapeutic discovery and protein engineering.

We are seeking a skilled scientist with a strong foundation in computational structural biology to lead efforts in modeling, simulating, and characterizing membrane proteins. This role is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of molecular modeling, AI-driven simulation, and experimental design

Key Responsibilites:

  • Design and refine molecular models of membrane proteins for surface and conformational analysis.
  • Conduct molecular dynamics simulations (all-atom, coarse-grained, implicit/explicit solvent) of protein-lipid systems.
  • Integrate AI-based modeling tools with physics-based simulations to study transport mechanisms and allosteric modulation.
  • Analyze vibrational modes and flexibility using normal mode analysis.
  • Collaborate on pilot-scale experiments to optimize protein expression and stability.
  • Mentor junior researchers and contribute to internal knowledge sharing.
  • Stay current with scientific literature and represent the company at conferences and symposia.
  • Support manuscript writing and intellectual property development.

Requirements:

  • Advanced degree (PhD preferred) in Biophysics, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related field.
  • 2-3+ years of experience in a research-intensive environment (industry or academia).
  • Proficiency in molecular modeling tools (e.g., PyMOL, Chimera, MODELLER, Schrodinger).
  • Hands-on experience with MD simulation platforms (e.g., GROMACS, NAMD, AMBER, CHARMM).
  • Familiarity with AI-based modeling tools (e.g., AlphaFold, ESMFold, RFdiffusion).
  • Comfortable working in Linux environments and scripting in Python or similar languages.
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
