Senior Software Engineer - Surgical Robotics & Medical Imaging (FREELANCE CONTRACT)

Start Date: Immediately
Location: Paris, France (On-site/Hybrid)
Hours: 40 hours per week (Full-time)
Engagement: 12-Month Freelance Contract
Key Responsibilities
- Develop software for next-generation robotic platforms designed for minimally invasive neurosurgical procedures.
- Design and implement high-performance applications using C++, Qt, and Linux within a complex medical technology environment.
- Build and maintain software that integrates medical imaging data, including MRI, CT, and 3D reconstruction technologies, to support surgical planning and intraoperative guidance.
- Collaborate closely with robotics, mechatronics, electronics, systems, and AI teams to deliver integrated software solutions.
- Contribute to software architecture, system design, and technical decision-making across the development lifecycle.
- Develop software components supporting robotic navigation, trajectory planning, visualization, and real-time system control.
- Participate in software verification, validation, debugging, and performance optimization activities.
- Produce technical documentation and ensure development activities are aligned with medical device quality and regulatory requirements.
- Work within a multidisciplinary environment alongside engineers, clinicians, and research teams to advance innovative neurosurgical technologies.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Robotics, Biomedical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 5+ years' experience developing software for medical devices, surgical robotics, image-guided systems.
- Strong commercial experience with C++, Qt, Linux, and object-oriented software development.
- Experience developing software that interacts with medical imaging systems, image processing pipelines, or 3D visualization technologies.
- Understanding of robotics software, navigation systems, motion control, or real-time software environments.
- Experience working closely with cross-functional engineering teams, including robotics, hardware, algorithms, and systems engineering.
- Familiarity with software development within regulated environments and medical device standards such as IEC 62304.
- Knowledge of software verification, validation, traceability, and risk management processes.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced R&D environment.
Nice to Have
- Previous experience within neurosurgery, surgical navigation, robotic-assisted surgery, or medical imaging companies.
- Experience with 3D visualization frameworks, image processing, computer vision, or navigation algorithms.
