Principal Scientist: Idaho
Position Summary
As the Principal Scientist for Skin, Sun & Lip Care, you will serve as the internal subject-matter expert responsible for driving technical execution, advancing new technologies, and elevating product performance. You'll own formulations from concept through commercialization and play a key role in shaping the innovation pipeline.
You'll collaborate closely with R&D leadership, product development, regulatory, operations, and marketing teams to deliver high‑performing products that meet consumer expectations, regulatory standards, and business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead innovation by identifying new technologies, ingredients, and formulation opportunities across Skin, Sun, and Lip Care categories
- Develop and optimize formulations from concept through launch, ensuring efficacy, safety, stability, and sensory performance
- Design and oversee testing programs, including stability, performance, safety, and clinical evaluation to support claims
- Conduct competitive benchmarking and technology assessments to inform category strategy and innovation pipelines
- Partner with Regulatory, Legal, Quality, and Marketing to ensure claims substantiation and global compliance
- Collaborate cross‑functionally with R&D, Operations, and Marketing to ensure seamless project execution
- Contribute to intellectual property strategy by supporting patent development and driving scientific excellence
- Stay up to date on scientific literature, raw material innovations, regulatory changes, and market trends
Qualifications
- Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in Chemistry or related scientific field
- 5+ years of experience in personal care, skincare, sun care, beauty, bath & body, OTC, or similar FMCG categories
- Strong formulation chemistry expertise with experience in in vitro/in vivo/clinical testing
- Understanding of global cosmetic regulations, labeling compliance, and GMP/GLP practices
- Proven ability to develop new formulations, evaluate emerging technologies, and improve existing products
- Strong analytical skills, including experimental design, data interpretation, and scientific documentation
- Excellent written and verbal communication, with experience preparing technical reports and supporting IP activities
- Demonstrated collaboration and leadership capabilities, including mentoring or guiding scientific staff
- Ability to relocate to the Idaho region and work onsite five days per week
