Formulation Scientist of Product Development
Summary of the Position
The Formulation Scientist will support new product development, product reformulation, and process improvement across a wide range of growth, quality, and cost‑savings initiatives from early concept through commercialization. This role collaborates closely with operations, quality, business teams, and other cross‑functional partners to contribute to product and process development efforts and support continuous improvement objectives.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Formulate moderately complex new products across various dosage forms including soft chews, powders, tablets, capsules, pellets, and liquids.
- Conduct bench trials, perform physical evaluations, and collect data to support new product initiatives.
- Collaborate with product development staff during pilot and scale‑up batches, collecting data to support in‑process parameters and final product specifications.
- Provide direction to product development technicians on data collection and processing activities.
- Assist in developing formulations for early‑stage development and clinical batches.
- Support studies involving new equipment and technologies that may improve manufacturing processes or formulations, particularly for soft chew products.
- Prepare and approve Master Batch Records and Change Control Requests for scale‑up or production batches.
- Adhere to applicable cGMP processes and documentation practices.
- Compile, review, and summarize stability data.
- Provide technical support to manufacturing and operations teams, including monitoring initial production batches for new or reformulated products.
- Train manufacturing personnel on new processes and improvements as needed.
- Maintain ongoing professional development by attending conferences and expos and applying relevant learnings.
- Communicate effectively within cross‑functional teams and contribute to a collaborative environment.
- Maintain reliable attendance.
- Perform additional duties as assigned in support of organizational objectives.
Minimum Requirements
- Experience working with soft chew or similar dosage forms.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, analyze results, draw valid conclusions, and recommend solutions.
Education and Experience
- BS/BA in chemistry, food science, life sciences, engineering, or related discipline, or equivalent experience.
- More than 5 years of hands‑on product development experience within food, dietary supplements, or related products, including dough, confectionery, or pet treat applications (experience in animal health or feed is a plus).
- Experience working in a cGMP environment with knowledge of regulatory requirements.
- Experience working within cross‑functional teams.
- Familiarity with animal feed regulations is a plus.
