Packaging Technology Engineer (contract)
Location: Beerse, Belgium
Contract: Until December 2026 (strong likelihood of extension)
Working Pattern: Hybrid (typically 1-2 days onsite per week following onboarding period)
Overview
We are seeking an experienced Packaging Technology Engineer to join a global Manufacturing Science & Technology (MS&T) team supporting a large portfolio of clinical development programs. This role is responsible for the end-to-end management of packaging and labeling activities for assigned compounds and clinical studies, ensuring packaging solutions are compliant, efficient, and delivered in line with study timelines.
Working within an international clinical supply environment, the successful candidate will collaborate with internal stakeholders and external partners to introduce new packaging solutions, implement material changes, and support the continuous improvement of packaging processes. This is a hands-on, accountable role with ownership of packaging activities rather than a support function.
Responsibilities
- Take ownership of packaging and labeling activities for assigned clinical studies and development compounds.
- Coordinate the introduction of new compounds into clinical packaging operations.
- Develop and implement packaging configurations that meet study requirements and regulatory expectations.
- Manage packaging material changes, supplier transitions, and implementation activities.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to ensure successful delivery of packaging solutions.
- Support packaging design activities and assess the impact of changes on existing processes.
- Drive investigations, deviations, change controls, and CAPA activities related to packaging operations.
- Evaluate packaging processes and identify opportunities to improve compliance, quality, efficiency, and delivery.
- Support the qualification and implementation of new packaging technologies, materials, and equipment where required.
- Utilize operational systems and business tools to manage packaging activities, documentation, and project deliverables.
- Act as a key technical stakeholder within cross-functional project teams, ensuring packaging activities are executed successfully from planning through implementation.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Life Sciences, or a related technical discipline.
- Several years of experience within pharmaceutical, biotechnology, clinical supply, or other GMP-regulated environments.
- Proven experience with packaging operations, packaging technology, labeling activities, packaging materials, or packaging process implementation.
- Experience managing packaging changes, supplier transitions, material introductions, or technical improvement projects.
- Strong understanding of GMP requirements, quality systems, and change management processes.
- Experience working with cross-functional stakeholders across supply chain, manufacturing, quality, and engineering functions.
- Strong affinity with technical systems and digital tools, with experience using SAP or similar ERP systems highly desirable.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Fluent English, both written and spoken.
- Dutch language skills are much preferred
- Must be able to work onsite during the onboarding period and maintain a regular on-site presence thereafter.
