Position Overview: As a Senior Data Engineer at you will play a pivotal role in architecting, developing, and maintaining the data infrastructure that powers our biotech research and development initiatives. Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implement scalable, robust, and efficient data pipelines for processing, transforming, and storing large-scale biomedical data, including genomics, proteomics, and clinical data.
- Collaborate with bioinformatics and research teams to understand data requirements, ensuring data quality, integrity, and security throughout the data lifecycle.
- Develop and maintain data warehousing and storage solutions, optimizing for performance, reliability, and accessibility.
- Work closely with software engineers to integrate data engineering solutions into end-to-end software applications and analytics platforms.
- Explore and implement advanced data processing techniques, such as real-time streaming and machine learning model deployment, to enable real-time insights and predictions.
- Mentor and guide junior data engineers, providing technical leadership and fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
- Stay abreast of emerging technologies, trends, and best practices in data engineering and biotechnology to drive the evolution of our data infrastructure.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Bioinformatics, or a related field. PhD is a plus.
- Proven experience (5+ years) as a Data Engineer, with a track record of successfully designing and implementing data pipelines for complex, high-dimensional biomedical data.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or Scala, with experience in building data processing and ETL pipelines using frameworks like Apache Spark, Apache Flink, or similar.
- Strong understanding of data modeling, database design, and optimization techniques for both relational and NoSQL databases.
- Familiarity with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure) and containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
- Experience with data warehousing solutions (e.g., Amazon Redshift, Snowflake, BigQuery) and data integration tools.
- Knowledge of version control systems (e.g., Git) and collaborative software development practices.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary environment.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and present complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
