A growing CNS pharmaceutical company is advancing innovative therapies to improve outcomes for individuals living with serious mental health conditions. With a strong focus on schizophrenia, the organization is preparing for major U.S. commercial launches, including a next‑generation long‑acting injectable antipsychotic designed to meet significant unmet needs across diverse care settings.

Position Overview

The Area Business Director (ABD) will play a critical leadership role in the U.S. launch of a long‑acting injectable antipsychotic. This individual will be responsible for building, leading, and developing a high‑performing regional field organization while driving execution against commercial objectives.

Reporting directly to the National Sales Director, the ABD will own regional performance, shape strategy and executional plans, and ensure successful uptake across community mental health centers (CMHCs), academic institutions, and Integrated Delivery Network (IDN) hospitals. A major focus of this role will be team build‑out, launch readiness, and sustained market adoption.

Successful candidates will bring a deep understanding of the schizophrenia treatment landscape, strong people leadership capabilities, and demonstrated experience driving results in complex institutional environments.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Talent Development

  • Recruit, hire, onboard, and develop a regional team of CNS Account Managers (contract sales model).
  • Create a culture of accountability, engagement, and continuous professional development.
  • Coach and mentor team members through consistent field presence, performance feedback, and individualized development plans.
  • Apply situational leadership principles to foster trust, productivity, and long‑term retention.

Commercial Strategy & Execution

  • Develop and execute regional business and account strategies aligned with national launch priorities.
  • Translate brand strategy into actionable territory‑level execution plans.
  • Drive achievement of regional sales targets while ensuring forecasts, quotas, and incentives are aligned with growth objectives.
  • Identify and address access, reimbursement, and treatment‑pathway barriers to appropriate product adoption.

Market & Customer Engagement

  • Ensure the field team builds strong, compliant relationships with key stakeholders, including prescribers, administrators, and influencers.
  • Personally engage with priority customers, opinion leaders, and regional accounts as needed.
  • Monitor competitive activity, changing treatment patterns, and market dynamics; communicate insights and recommendations to senior leadership.

Cross‑Functional Collaboration & Compliance

  • Partner closely with Marketing, Market Access, Training, Medical Affairs, and other commercial functions to support a successful launch.
  • Ensure all field activities adhere to company policies, promotional guidelines, and applicable federal and state regulations.
  • Oversee regional budgets, manage expenses responsibly, and support data‑driven decision making.
  • Perform additional duties as business needs evolve.

Qualifications

Education & Professional Experience

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 10+ years of commercial experience within pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or healthcare organizations.
  • 5+ years of proven people‑management experience leading field commercial teams.
  • Demonstrated expertise within schizophrenia, preferably including long‑acting injectable (LAI) therapies.
  • Strong experience working with CMHCs, hospitals, and institutional accounts.
  • Familiarity with specialty pharmacy and payer dynamics strongly preferred.
  • Established relationships with schizophrenia key opinion leaders are a plus.

Travel

  • 40%-60% travel expected within the assigned region.

  • Candidates should reside near a major U.S. hub airport.
  • Preferred locations include:
    North Carolina, Washington DC area, Georgia, Florida, Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, Texas, California
  • Central region hub alignment: Chicago, Ohio, or St. Louis (remote within region)
