Director, Communications
Role Overview
The Director of Communications plays an important role leading corporate communications for internal and external audiences. The position will work with multiple departments to ensure accurate, consistent, and strategic messaging that supports the company's mission, business goals, and reputation.
Key Responsibilities
Corporate Communications Strategy
- Design and execute an enterprise-wide corporate communications strategy aligned to company vision, values, and near- and long-term business objectives.
- Oversee internal and external communications channels to ensure message clarity, consistency, and appropriate timing.
- Collaborate with medical and clinical stakeholders to support the preparation, review, and distribution of clinical data announcements and scientific congress communications.
Website and Digital Content Oversight
- Own governance of the corporate website, ensuring content is current and accurately reflects company news, research progress, clinical programs, and corporate updates.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to develop compelling digital content that highlights innovation, milestones, and company achievements.
Content Development and Storytelling
- Create high-impact written communications across multiple formats, such as press releases, executive remarks, blogs, newsletters, annual reporting, and internal updates.
- Ensure all content reinforces the corporate narrative and advances broader business and communications objectives.
Cross-Functional Alignment
- Act as a central communications partner across Corporate Communications, Research, Clinical Development, and Investor Relations.
- Develop and manage an integrated communications calendar to coordinate key milestones, announcements, and messaging across functions.
Internal Communications
- Lead internal communications planning to keep employees informed, engaged, and aligned with company priorities.
- Promote transparency and cultural cohesion through clear, consistent, and timely employee messaging.
Investor Relations Support
- Provide support, as needed, to the Investor Relations team for materials including investor presentations, press releases, and shareholder communications, working closely to ensure message alignment.
Crisis Communications and Reputation Management
- Contribute to crisis communications planning and execution.
- Support media response efforts and help monitor company reputation across traditional media and social platforms.
Media Relations
- Build and maintain relationships with relevant media, journalists, and industry influencers.
- Coordinate media outreach and respond to inbound press inquiries with accurate, timely information.
Executive and Leadership Communications
- Partner with executive leadership to develop speeches, presentations, and tailored messaging for meetings, conferences, and public forums.
- Ensure leaders are well supported with materials that clearly and confidently represent the company.
Job Requirements
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related scientific discipline. Advanced degrees or professional certifications are a plus.
- Eight or more years of experience in corporate communications within pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or healthcare environments.
Industry and Functional Expertise
- Strong understanding of pharmaceutical industry dynamics, clinical development processes, and investor relations.
- Demonstrated experience developing and executing strategic communications programs across multiple channels.
Technical and Content Skills
- Proven ability to write, edit, and produce content for a wide range of audiences and formats.
- Hands-on experience managing corporate websites and digital content ecosystems.
- Experience managing external communications or PR agencies as a primary point of contact.
- Working knowledge of regulatory and compliance considerations impacting corporate and investor communications.
