Overview

The Vice President, Digital Strategy & Engagement plays a critical role in advancing organizational growth by strengthening digital, creative, and engagement capabilities across a Medical Affairs portfolio, including Publications, Medical Education, and Scientific Communications. This position is accountable for driving operational excellence, building high-performing teams, and expanding the impact of digital and creative services.

Working in close alignment with client services, scientific, strategy, and technology functions, the VP translates complex scientific content into engaging, insight-driven solutions that deliver measurable value. The role emphasizes cross-functional collaboration to bring together data, creativity, and scientific expertise in a seamless and differentiated way.

In parallel, this leader defines and evolves the organization's creative and digital direction, scaling innovation through AI-enabled processes and modern engagement approaches. The VP ensures that all deliverables meet high standards of quality while supporting long-term capability development, innovation adoption, and sustainable business growth.

Key Responsibilities

Business Impact & Client Leadership

  • Act as a senior partner to clients, shaping digital engagement strategies that drive measurable medical and business outcomes
  • Contribute to new business efforts, including proposals and strategic pitches
  • Identify opportunities to expand digital solutions across accounts and strengthen long-term partnerships
  • Position digital engagement as a core driver of scientific impact, not just execution

Digital Strategy, Innovation & Transformation

  • Set the direction for digital and creative strategy, ensuring alignment with broader organizational and client objectives
  • Advance modern engagement approaches, including omnichannel and experience-led models
  • Stay ahead of trends in healthcare communications, HCP engagement, AI-driven content development, and digital experience design
  • Champion the adoption of emerging technologies and platforms that enhance engagement and delivery

AI Enablement & Scalable Delivery

  • Drive the integration of AI and automation into content development and delivery workflows to improve efficiency and quality
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to implement:
    • Generative AI solutions
    • Modular and reusable content systems
    • Digital asset and knowledge management frameworks
    • Automated workflows and production models
    • Data, analytics, and personalization capabilities
  • Continuously evaluate and introduce new tools that support scalable, future-ready operations

Creative, Experience & Content Excellence

  • Provide leadership across creative direction, UX/UI design, and digital execution
  • Ensure all outputs meet high standards for scientific integrity, user experience, and brand consistency
  • Oversee the development of integrated, cross-channel storytelling approaches tailored to diverse audiences

Operational Performance & Delivery Optimization

  • Design and implement delivery models that scale effectively across global teams
  • Oversee resourcing strategies, financial performance, and margin improvement initiatives
  • Track and optimize performance through KPIs related to quality, efficiency, utilization, innovation, and client satisfaction
  • Partner with operations teams to streamline processes and improve overall delivery effectiveness

Team Leadership & Capability Development

  • Build and lead high-performing, multidisciplinary teams spanning creative, digital, UX/UI, and development functions
  • Support career development through coaching, mentoring, and structured growth planning
  • Cultivate an environment that encourages innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning
  • Strengthen organizational capabilities in AI, digital strategy, and emerging engagement models

Qualifications

Core Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in marketing, communications, design, digital media, life sciences, or a related discipline
  • 10+ years of progressive experience, including senior leadership responsibility within a healthcare, medical communications, or pharmaceutical environment
  • Proven ability to manage cross-functional teams and operate within global delivery structures
  • Strong knowledge of Medical Affairs, including compliance considerations, scientific content development, and omnichannel engagement
  • Demonstrated success in client leadership and executive-level stakeholder engagement

Additional Experience (Preferred)

  • Hands-on experience incorporating AI into digital or creative workflows
  • Familiarity with modular content strategies and orchestration across channels
  • Experience working within distributed or global team environments
  • Understanding of healthcare technology platforms, analytics tools, and CRM ecosystems
