A fast-growing biotech company in the San Francisco Bay Area is seeking a Cost Accounting Manager to join its dynamic Finance team. This hybrid role offers the opportunity to work at the intersection of finance, operations, and clinical lab functions, supporting the development and commercialization of cutting-edge diagnostic technologies.
This is a high-impact position responsible for cost-controlling activities, including budgeting, product costing, variance analysis, management reporting, and partnering with cross-functional teams to improve financial efficiency in a production environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Partner with Accounting, Operations, Clinical Lab, IT, and Facilities teams to deliver cost accounting solutions aligned with evolving business needs.
- Lead forward-looking cost of goods sold (COGS) modeling and review processes, including tracking improvement targets and performance metrics.
- Oversee standard cost setup, monthly COGS analytics, variance analysis, quarterly forecasts, annual budgets, and long-range planning.
- Provide financial direction and strategic insight to operational leaders, helping define and deliver on short- and long-term goals.
- Manage monthly and quarterly close processes for COGS and inventory, including journal entries and audit/SOX documentation.
- Collaborate with Supply Chain and Lab teams to analyze inventory for excess and obsolescence, and make related accounting entries.
- Develop and maintain methodologies for calculating material, labor, and overhead costs in compliance with GAAP.
- Support ERP and FP&A tool initiatives, ensuring master data accuracy and integrity.
- Deliver high-value financial analysis to support product launches, cost optimization, and risk mitigation.
- Drive improvements in planning processes and financial reporting efficiency.
- Handle ad-hoc financial projects and requests as needed.
Qualifications:
Must-Haves:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business.
- 6+ years of FP&A experience in a high-growth biotech, diagnostics, or medical device environment.
- Strong analytical skills and experience building complex financial models.
- Ability to communicate financial concepts clearly to non-finance stakeholders.
- Proven ability to think strategically while managing detailed execution.
- Highly organized, data-driven, and self-motivated.
Nice-to-Haves:
- MBA or Big-4 experience.
- Background in CLIA/FDA-regulated lab environments or reagent manufacturing.
- Familiarity with clinical diagnostics development and operations.
Location & Work Style:
- Hybrid role based in the Brisbane, CA area. Candidates must be local or willing to relocate.
