VP, Group Account Lead - Speaker Bureau
Overview
We are seeking a strategic, client-facing Vice President, Group Account Lead to oversee and grow a portfolio of Speaker Bureau and Peer-to-Peer Engagement programs within a leading medical communications agency. This role requires a seasoned leader with deep expertise in compliant HCP engagement, strong operational rigor, and the ability to drive high-impact omnichannel speaker strategies across therapeutic areas.
The VP will serve as a trusted advisor to pharmaceutical and biotech clients, leading integrated teams to deliver innovative, compliant, and measurable speaker bureau solutions that support brand objectives across the product lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
Client Leadership & Strategic Partnership
- Serve as senior strategic lead for key accounts with a focus on speaker bureau and peer-to-peer engagement programs
- Build and maintain strong client relationships, acting as a trusted advisor on engagement strategy, compliance, and program optimization
- Lead annual and tactical planning for speaker programs aligned to brand strategy, launch milestones, and lifecycle needs
- Identify growth opportunities within existing accounts and support new business development efforts
Speaker Bureau Strategy & Oversight
- Provide expert guidance on speaker bureau design, engagement models, and delivery channels (live, virtual, hybrid, on-demand)
- Oversee development and execution of:
- National, regional, and local speaker programs
- Advisory boards and faculty development initiatives
- Digital/virtual speaker platforms and data-driven targeting strategies
- Ensure programs are aligned with regulatory and compliance standards (e.g., Sunshine Act, FDA regulations, PhRMA Code)
Operational Excellence
- Oversee end-to-end execution of speaker bureau programs, including logistics, vendor management, contracting, and reconciliation
- Implement scalable processes and tools to improve program efficiency, reporting, and ROI tracking
- Partner with internal operations, compliance, and procurement teams to ensure flawless execution
- Monitor program performance and optimize based on data insights and KPIs
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing account team, fostering a collaborative and accountable culture
- Oversee resource allocation, staffing plans, and team development initiatives
- Champion best practices in speaker bureau management and knowledge sharing across the agency
Financial Management
- Own account P&L, including forecasting, revenue tracking, and margin optimization
- Ensure budgets are managed effectively across programs, with strong financial stewardship and reporting
- Drive profitability while maintaining high-quality client delivery
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with medical, creative, digital, analytics, and compliance teams to deliver integrated solutions
- Collaborate with technology partners to enhance speaker program platforms and reporting capabilities
- Ensure seamless coordination across internal teams and external vendors
Qualifications
- 10-15+ years of experience in medical communications, pharmaceutical marketing, or healthcare agency environment
- Deep expertise in speaker bureau/peer-to-peer programs, including strategy, operations, and compliance
- Proven success managing large, complex accounts and leading senior client relationships
- Strong understanding of pharmaceutical regulations and compliance frameworks
- Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire cross-functional teams
- Experience managing P&L and driving organic account growth
- Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills
Preferred Experience
- Background in therapeutic areas such as oncology, immunology, cardiology, or rare disease
- Experience with digital transformation of speaker programs (e.g., virtual platforms, analytics, CRM integrations)
- Familiarity with field force engagement models and integration with sales/medical teams
