Combination Product Expert
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail‑oriented Formulation Scientist to support the development and optimization of a liquid cannabis formulation intended for inhalation delivery. This is a contract-based role suited for an experienced scientist who can independently lead formulation work and contribute practical, solutions‑driven expertise.
The successful candidate will work closely with internal R&D, product, and engineering stakeholders to refine an existing formulation or develop improved approaches that meet performance, safety, and stability requirements for inhaled products. The role is hands-on and technical, with a strong emphasis on applied formulation science rather than purely academic research.
Key Responsibilities and Scope of Work:
- Optimize cannabinoid solubility and homogeneity in liquid formulations suitable for inhalation
- Evaluate and select excipients appropriate for pulmonary delivery, balancing performance, safety, and regulatory considerations
- Develop and refine flavor systems while maintaining formulation integrity and sensory consistency
- Conduct stability studies, identify degradation pathways, and recommend strategies to improve shelf life
- Troubleshoot formulation challenges related to precipitation, phase separation, volatility, or device compatibility
- Document formulation work clearly and provide actionable recommendations
Desired Experience and Qualifications:
- Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field
- Demonstrated experience with inhalation formulations (e.g., vaporized, aerosolized, or nebulized liquids)
- Strong understanding of lipophilic active ingredients, including cannabinoids or analogous compounds
- Familiarity with regulatory, toxicological, and safety considerations for inhaled products
- Ability to work independently, manage experiments, and communicate findings effectively
