HAZOP/LOPA Lead (Process Safety Engineer)
Overview
EPM Scientific is partnered with one of our key pharmaceutical clients who are looking for an experienced HAZOP/LOPA Lead to strengthen their internal Process Safety team.
The team is responsible for conducting and maintaining safety studies throughout the entire lifecycle of our installations, covering both new projects (from basic engineering through to as-built) and the remediation and review of safety studies for existing equipment.
As a HAZOP/LOPA Lead, you will play a key role in analysing, structuring, and substantiating process safety decisions for both new and existing installations, including reactors, dryers, centrifuges, tanks, and utility systems.
You will take ownership of the complete HAZOP/LOPA process, from preparation and facilitation through to reporting and action follow-up, while acting as a trusted advisor and sounding board on process safety matters.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and facilitate HAZOP and LOPA studies across a range of process installations.
  • Manage the full HAZOP/LOPA lifecycle, including:
    • Scope definition
    • Preparation
    • Workshop facilitation
    • Documentation
    • Reporting
    • Follow-up of actions
  • Support safety studies for both capital projects and existing operational equipment.
  • Contribute to the identification, evaluation, and implementation of safe and practical engineering solutions.
  • Provide expert guidance on process safety matters to project and operational teams.
  • Work closely with:
    • Process Engineers
    • Process Safety Specialists
    • Operations Teams
    • Junior HAZOP Scribes
    • Other Technical Subject Matter Experts
  • Promote a strong safety culture across the organisation.
Required Experience & Skills
  • Demonstrable experience leading HAZOP and LOPA studies.
  • Experience supporting both:
    • New capital projects
    • Remediation and re-validation of safety studies for existing equipment
  • Strong process safety knowledge and a deep commitment to safe design and operation.
  • Ability to identify and develop innovative technical solutions to process safety challenges.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to facilitate multidisciplinary workshops and build consensus across teams.
  • Fluent Dutch language skills.
