Freelance Procurement Manager (Medical Devices)

We are seeking an experienced Freelance Procurement Manager to support medical device operations. This role is ideal for independent professionals who excel in supplier management, regulatory‑compliant procurement, and ensuring a robust, cost‑efficient supply chain.
As a key partner to our production, quality, and R&D teams, you will manage sourcing activities, strengthen supplier relationships, and ensure materials and components meet the strict standards required for medical device manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities
Supplier Sourcing & Management
- Identify, evaluate, and onboard qualified suppliers for materials, components, and devices.
- Conduct supplier assessments and audits to ensure compliance with ISO 13485, FDA 21 CFR Part 820, and MDR requirements.
- Negotiate pricing, contracts, and service-level agreements.
- Develop dual‑sourcing and risk‑mitigation strategies.
Regulatory & Quality Alignment
- Ensure all purchased materials meet regulatory, technical, and quality specifications.
- Collaborate with QA on supplier non-conformances, CAPAs, and corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate purchasing documentation for audits and inspections.
Cost & Budget Management
- Analyse market trends and cost drivers to recommend cost‑saving opportunities.
- Support budgeting and procurement forecasting.
- Drive value‑engineering initiatives.
Supply Chain Coordination
- Align purchasing activities with production schedules and demand forecasts.
- Monitor inventory levels and lead times to ensure continuity of supply.
- Improve supplier delivery performance.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
- Support R&D during new product development with early-stage component sourcing.
- Partner with Manufacturing, Engineering, Regulatory, and Finance teams.
- Assist with design changes, component obsolescence, and life-cycle management.
Process Improvement
- Optimise procurement workflow, documentation, and supplier dashboards.
- Utilize ERP/MRP or e‑procurement systems to manage purchasing activity.
Requirements
- Proven experience in procurement within the medical device industry.
- Strong understanding of ISO 13485, FDA QSR, and MDR requirements.
- Demonstrated supplier negotiation and contract management experience.
- Ability to work independently as a contractor with minimal oversight.
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills.
