An established, accredited medical education organization is seeking a Director of Grant Revenue and Supporter Relations to lead its funding strategy across ophthalmology and optometry-focused continuing education. The organization delivers ACCME and COPE-compliant programming at scale, reaching a large national audience of eyecare professionals.
Overview
This role owns the grant funding function, with responsibility for pipeline growth, supporter relationships, and proposal quality. It is a highly relationship-driven position, requiring credibility with Medical Affairs and IME teams across pharmaceutical and medical device companies.
The Director will partner closely with clinical and content teams to develop education aligned to documented practice gaps and represent these concepts to Medical Affairs and IME teams. All activity operates within strict compliance standards, with clear separation between education and commercial influence.
Key Responsibilities
Supporter Relationships and Pipeline
- Build and manage relationships with IME grant contacts and Medical Affairs teams
- Identify new funding opportunities across therapeutic areas such as retina, glaucoma, dry eye, and refractive care
- Track grant cycles, RFP timelines, and supporter priorities
- Represent the organization at industry events and conferences
- Ensure all interactions align with ACCME and COPE compliance standards
Grant Strategy and Execution
- Lead development of grant proposals and letters of request
- Translate clinical insights into needs assessments and educational strategies
- Partner with internal stakeholders to align content, design, and outcomes
- Manage submission timelines across multiple grant portals
- Continuously refine messaging, templates, and win-rate performance
Cross-Functional Leadership
- Collaborate with clinical, content, and program teams to shape educational strategy
- Provide pipeline forecasts and funding analysis to leadership
- Build systems for full visibility across grant activity
- Establish structure across the full grant lifecycle from concept through renewal
This role is right for someone who:
- Owns funding targets and drives pipeline development proactively
- Builds long-term, trust-based relationships with Medical Affairs
- Strong understanding of ACCME and COPE compliance frameworks
- Comfortable balancing strategy, writing, and external engagement
- Open to regular travel for conferences and industry meetings
Required Experience
- 7+ years in IME/CME grants, Medical Affairs, or MedComms agency account management or business development
- Proven success securing funding from pharma or device organizations
- Strong knowledge of compliance standards for accredited education
- Experience managing concurrent submissions and timelines
- Established industry relationships and strong communication skills
Preferred
- Experience in ophthalmology, optometry, or visual health
- Background within a MedEd or MedComms environment
- Familiarity with major grant submission platforms
- Track record of improving proposal positioning and win rates
