Occupational Health and Safety Specialist Overview:
🏢 Overview
We are supporting a leading, highly regulated organisation in the search for an Occupational Health & Safety Specialist on a 12-month contract basis.
This role will have a strong Occupational Health and Industrial Hygiene focus, supporting the development and delivery of health-led safety programs across a complex operational environment.
🎯 Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support Occupational Health programs, including exposure monitoring, hazard identification, and risk mitigation
- Conduct industrial hygiene assessments (e.g., air sampling, noise monitoring, exposure analysis)
- Perform ergonomic evaluations and implement corrective actions (RULA, REBA, task analysis)
- Develop and maintain health-focused risk assessments and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs)
- Support incident investigations and root cause analysis (FMEA, Ishikawa, 5 Whys)
- Partner with cross-functional teams (Operations, Quality, Engineering) to embed health considerations into processes and design
- Deliver health & safety training, with a focus on occupational health risks and prevention
- Contribute to audit readiness and regulatory compliance across relevant frameworks
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives aligned to Operational Excellence principles
🧠 Technical Skills & Experience Required
- Strong background in Occupational Health / Industrial Hygiene
- Hands-on experience with exposure assessment methodologies (NIOSH-based sampling preferred)
- Proven expertise in ergonomic assessment tools (RULA, REBA)
- Solid understanding of regulatory frameworks (e.g., OSHA, NIOSH, ISO 45001)
- Experience applying risk assessment and system safety tools (FMEA, FTA, Ishikawa)
- Ability to analyse and interpret industrial hygiene and safety data to drive decisions
- Experience developing SOPs, safety programs, and training materials
- Familiarity with EHS management systems and audit processes
✅ Preferred Background
- Experience within pharmaceutical, medical device, manufacturing, or highly regulated environments
- Exposure to Occupational Health programs in lab or production settings
- Strong stakeholder engagement and ability to influence behavioural change
