Position Overview
The Managing Director, Investor Relations serves as a senior client advisor and business leader, responsible for overseeing investor relations strategy, client engagements, team development, business growth, and operational initiatives within a healthcare and life sciences-focused.
Client Advisory & Content Leadership
- Lead and oversee a portfolio of 7-10 client accounts, while providing leadership support across a broader team and book of business
- Develop and execute customized investor relations and communications strategies
- Maintain oversight of all client deliverables, ensuring exceptional quality and consistency
- Serve as the primary day-to-day client relationship lead, partnering with senior leadership on critical initiatives as needed
- Advise senior executives on investor engagement, corporate messaging, and market positioning across clients at varying stages of growth and development
- Monitor industry trends, regulatory developments, and competitive dynamics to inform client strategies
- Draft and review corporate communications materials, including:
- Investor presentations
- Earnings-related communications
- Press releases
- Executive messaging materials
- Oversee research projects, investor targeting analyses, roadshows, meetings, and investor events
- Provide event planning support and occasional travel as required
- Manage client retainers, budgets, and engagement economics, ensuring accurate invoicing and financial oversight
- Maintain a strong client-service orientation and meet established utilization targets
Team Leadership & Development
- Manage, mentor, and develop junior team members
- Conduct performance reviews and oversee professional development plans
- Foster a collaborative, high-performing, and purpose-driven culture
- Provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and career development support
- Promote an inclusive and respectful workplace environment
- Lead by example through accountability, integrity, and teamwork
- Approve and manage utilization and time reporting for direct reports
Business Development & Market Growth
- Support development of marketing materials and new business proposals
- Identify, pursue, and help secure new client opportunities
- Leverage and expand relationships across the healthcare, life sciences, and investment communities
- Build and maintain relationships with investors, analysts, and financial advisors
- Represent the organization at industry conferences, investor events, speaking engagements, and other professional forums
- Contribute to the growth of the firm's client portfolio and market presence
Strategic Leadership
- Contribute to operational excellence, growth initiatives, and long-term business strategy
- Identify opportunities to provide additional value to clients and the organization
- Develop thought leadership initiatives and market-facing insights
Required Experience
- 10+ years of relevant experience in investor relations, healthcare, life sciences, finance, communications, or consulting
- Prior agency or advisory experience is strongly preferred
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced client-service environment
- Strong network within the healthcare, biotechnology, and investment communities
- Excellent communication, leadership, and strategic thinking capabilities
- Proven ability to produce high-quality client deliverables and executive-level communications
- Experience advising senior executives and influencing key stakeholders
- Track record of leading teams and developing talent
- Bachelor's degree required
Additional Qualifications
- Recognized subject matter expertise in investor relations and capital markets communications
- Comfortable operating within technology-enabled environments and utilizing emerging tools, including AI-based platforms
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Experience conducting employee performance reviews and development planning
- Proven ability to contribute to business development, proposal creation, and client acquisition efforts
- Demonstrated commitment to organizational growth, collaboration, and team success
