Job Title: Electrical Engineer - Freelance (12‑Month Contract)

Location: Munich- On-site 4 days/week (Hybrid on remaining day)
Department: R&D / Hardware Engineering
Contract Type: Freelance / Freiberufler, 12 months


About the Role

  • 12‑month freelance contract supporting advanced hardware development.
  • Contribute to design, testing, and integration of next‑generation electronic systems.
  • Work closely with mechanical, software, and systems engineering teams.
  • Ideal for an engineer with strong fundamentals, hands‑on lab skills, and comfort in high‑tech environments (e.g., medical devices, imaging systems).
  • Requires 4 days per week on-site.

Key Responsibilities

Hardware Design & Development

  • Design analog, digital, and mixed-signal circuits.
  • Create schematics, PCB layouts, and component selections.
  • Develop low‑noise, high‑precision electronics for sensors, imaging, or high‑speed data capture.
  • Run simulations (SPICE, MATLAB, etc.) to validate designs.

Testing & Validation

  • Perform hardware bring-up, debugging, and troubleshooting.
  • Use oscilloscopes, logic analysers, spectrum analysers, and other lab equipment.
  • Develop and execute verification & validation test plans.
  • Conduct root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions.

System Integration

  • Integrate electronics with embedded software, sensors, power systems, and mechanical assemblies.
  • Translate system requirements into hardware specifications.
  • Support system-level testing and optimisation.

Documentation & Quality

  • Produce engineering documentation: design specs, test plans, reports, risk assessments, traceability.
  • Ensure compliance with IEC, ISO, EMC/EMI, and regulatory standards.
  • Participate in design reviews and support quality processes.

Cross‑Functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate with R&D, software, manufacturing, and clinical/field teams.
  • Work with suppliers, fabrication partners, and external test labs.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • MUST HAVE background in medical devices.
  • Strong grounding in circuit theory, signal processing, power electronics, and hardware fundamentals.
  • Hands‑on lab experience using electrical test equipment.
  • Experience designing, testing, and debugging complex electronics.
  • Ability to script in Python, MATLAB, or similar for automation/data analysis.
  • Strong analytical, documentation, and independent working skills.
