Computer Vision Engineer - MedTech

12‑month Contract / Freelance
Location: Germany (hybrid or remote within Germany)

We are partnering with a MedTech company developing advanced image‑based solutions used in clinical and regulated healthcare environments. They are seeking an experienced Computer Vision Engineer on a 12‑month contract / freelance basis to support ongoing R&D and product development initiatives.

This role sits within a multidisciplinary R&D team and focuses on designing, developing, and optimising computer vision and machine learning algorithms for medical applications.

Contract Details

  • Contract length: 12 months (extension possible)
  • Engagement: Freelance / Contract
  • Location: Germany (remote or hybrid depending on project needs)
  • Start: ASAP

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement computer vision and deep learning algorithms for medical imaging or video data
  • Work with modalities such as microscopy, endoscopy, X‑ray, CT, MRI, or similar image‑based inputs
  • Design, train, and validate models (e.g. CNNs, UNet-based architectures) under real‑world data constraints
  • Collaborate with software engineers, clinical experts, and product teams to translate clinical needs into technical solutions
  • Support model optimisation, performance evaluation, and documentation for regulated environments
  • Contribute to algorithm verification and validation activities aligned with medical device standards

Experience & Skills

  • Strong background in computer vision and machine learning, ideally within medical imaging or MedTech
  • Proficiency in Python and deep learning frameworks, preferably PyTorch
  • Experience with image segmentation, detection, or classification problems
  • Understanding of medical or scientific image data and its associated challenges (data quality, annotation, bias)
  • Exposure to delivering production‑ready algorithms, not just research prototypes
  • Familiarity with DICOM and medical imaging standards is advantageous
  • Experience in regulated development environments (e.g. IEC 62304, ISO 13485, FDA or CE‑marking) is beneficial
  • Knowledge of C++, GPU acceleration, or CUDA is a plus
  • MSc or PhD in Computer Vision, Biomedical Engineering, Medical Imaging, or a related field
