Computational Biologist

We are working with a pioneering, venture-backed biotech startup unlocking new potential in the developmental biology field.

Position: Computational Biologist
Location: SF - flexible remote
Type: Full‑Time

What You'll Do

  • Pipeline Development & Maintenance

    • Run and maintain automated bioinformatics pipelines on an HPC cluster (and cloud as needed) for single‑cell and bulk RNA‑seq, ATAC‑seq, and other omics data.

    • Perform routine QC assessments, normalization, and differential expression analyses with best‑practice workflows.

  • Data Analysis & Interpretation

    • Analyze genome‑wide next‑generation sequencing datasets to uncover insights into stem cell biology.

    • Clean, QC, and "smell‑test" datasets; translate computational findings into testable biological hypotheses.

    • Create compelling data visualizations for internal teams and external presentations.

  • Collaborative Research

    • Work closely with bench scientists to iterate on experimental designs and integrate computational predictions with in‑vitro validation.

    • Contribute to code bases using R, Python, and bash-adhering to version‑control, documentation, and reproducibility standards.

    • Explore public datasets and integrate them with in‑house data to expand the scope of discovery projects.

Who You Are

  • Education & Experience

    • PhD in Computational Biology, Genomics, Systems Biology, or related field; or MS plus 1-3 years industry experience in bioinformatics.

  • Technical Proficiency

    • Expert in R, Python, and bash scripting.

    • Deep experience with single‑cell and bulk RNA‑seq workflows (e.g., Seurat, Scanpy, DESeq2) and ATAC‑seq preprocessing.

    • Strong statistical foundations: data cleaning, QC, hypothesis generation, and interpretation.

    • Comfortable with Git‑based collaborative coding and high‑performance computing environments.

  • Analytical Mindset

    • Proven ability to scope, design, and execute independent analyses that drive new scientific directions.

    • Track record of translating complex computational results into clear, actionable insights for experimental teams.

  • Communication & Teamwork

    • Excellent communicator-able to present technical findings to both computational and wet‑lab audiences.

    • Eager to collaborate across disciplines and contribute to a fast‑paced startup culture.

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with spatial transcriptomics platforms and analysis tools.

  • Prior exposure to cloud‑native bioinformatics workflows (e.g., AWS Batch, Terraform).
