Chief Medical Officer
EPM Scientific are currently partnered with a clinical-stage biotechnology company which is advancing a global programme in neurodegenerative disease. They are urgently seeking a Chief Medical Officer, reporting to the Chief Executive Officer to lead and scale their Clinical, Medical, and Regulatory functions. See a summary of the role below:
Role Overview:
- Start date: ASAP (urgent hire ahead of Phase III readiness)

- Project: Late-stage clinical development in neurodegenerative disease, with imminent Phase III programme initiation
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic leadership across Clinical Development, Medical Affairs, and Regulatory functions at executive level.
- Lead the design and execution of Phase III clinical trials, including protocol development and oversight of study conduct.
- Act as the primary medical representative of the organisation for external stakeholders, including investigators, KOLs, partners, and investors.
- Oversee medical monitoring activities in the short term, with responsibility to build out the broader medical team.
- Drive cross-functional alignment across clinical, regulatory, and commercial strategy to support late-stage development and future launch readiness.
- Lead interactions with regulatory authorities and contribute to submission strategy and documentation.
- Interpret clinical and translational data, ensuring clear scientific communication internally and externally.
- Develop and maintain key relationships with investigators, advisory boards, and external experts within the CNS space.
- Operate in a highly hands-on environment, balancing strategic oversight with operational execution in a lean team.
- Support corporate activities including investor relations, fundraising, and Board-level discussions.
Requirements:
- MD qualified (or equivalent), with strong preference for Neurology background; expertise in CNS / neurodegenerative diseases essential.
- Proven leadership experience within Clinical Development at senior level (CMO / VP / Senior Medical Leader).
- Demonstrated experience leading late-phase clinical programmes (Phase II/III), ideally within small-to-mid-sized biotech environments.
- Strong knowledge of specific neurodegenerative indications highly desirable.
- Experience writing and reviewing clinical protocols and regulatory documentation.
- Track record of engaging with regulatory bodies, KOLs, and external stakeholders.
- Comfortable operating in a hands-on, fast-paced environment with a high degree of ownership and accountability.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to represent the organisation at an executive level.
- Flexible mindset with willingness to work across time zones and adapt to evolving business needs.
- Prior biotech experience preferred; candidates from larger organisations considered if able to demonstrate a hands-on approach.
