Overview
We are supporting a leading medical device manufacturer in Limerick that is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join a product development team focused on infusion and fluid delivery technologies.
This position will play a key role in the development of patient-contacting and disposable components, with particular emphasis on fluid path systems, tubing assemblies, silicone and elastomeric materials, and single-use medical consumables.
The successful candidate will bring strong experience designing products where fluid management, material compatibility, reliability, and patient safety are critical.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of disposable and fluid-contacting medical device components.
- Design and optimize fluid path assemblies, tubing systems, connectors, seals, and consumable components.
- Support product development activities from concept through design verification and validation.
- Evaluate, specify, and select materials including silicone, rubber, elastomers, and medical-grade polymers.
- Contribute to fluidics-related design challenges including flow control, pressure management, leakage prevention, and overall system performance.
- Work closely with R&D, Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory Affairs, and Supplier Quality teams.
- Support design reviews, risk management activities, technical documentation, testing, and product characterization.
- Ensure designs meet performance, reliability, biocompatibility, and regulatory requirements.
Required Experience
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years' experience within medical device product development or R&D.
- Strong background designing disposable medical devices, consumables, or fluid-contacting components.
- Hands-on experience developing one or more of the following:
- Tubing sets
- Fluid-path assemblies
- Infusion disposables
- Drug delivery systems
- Catheter-based products
- Single-use medical components
- Practical experience working with:
- Silicone materials
- Rubber and elastomeric components
- Medical-grade polymers
- Material compatibility and biocompatibility considerations
- Experience operating within FDA-regulated and ISO 13485 environments.
- Understanding of design controls, verification, validation, and risk management processes.
Desirable Experience
- Infusion pumps or infusion therapy products.
- Drug delivery systems.
- Catheter-based devices.
- Biocompatibility and material compatibility testing.
- Supplier collaboration and material selection for disposable components.
- Experience with high-volume manufacturing of consumable medical device products.
