Medical Science Liaison (MSL) - Anti-infectives
Purpose of the Role
A field-based, non-promotional scientific role responsible for providing medical and scientific expertise to healthcare professionals and internal stakeholders. The role supports evidence-based decision-making, identifies unmet medical needs, and contributes to medical strategy while ensuring compliance with industry regulations.
Key Responsibilities
KOL / External Expert Engagement
- Build and maintain relationships with key external experts, healthcare professionals, and academic institutions
- Facilitate scientific exchange and support medical education initiatives
- Organize and contribute to advisory boards, symposia, and investigator meetings
Scientific Communication
- Deliver scientific presentations and respond to medical inquiries
- Share up-to-date clinical and scientific insights internally and externally
- Support publication development (abstracts, posters, manuscripts)
Clinical Trial Support
- Provide input into study design and protocol development
- Identify and engage clinical investigators
- Support investigator-initiated trials
Medical Strategy Execution
- Contribute to and implement medical plans
- Attend congresses and gather insights
- Maintain deep knowledge of therapeutic areas, clinical data, and competitive landscape
Cross-functional Collaboration
- Work closely with internal teams (e.g. medical, commercial, market access)
- Provide scientific training and support
Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Degree in life sciences (e.g. medicine, pharmacy); advanced degree (PhD/MSc) preferred
- Experience: ~3+ years as an MSL in the pharmaceutical industry
- Relevant therapeutic expertise (e.g. infectious diseases, intensive care, or oncology) preferred
- Skills:
- Strong scientific communication and presentation skills
- Ability to engage and influence stakeholders
- Project management and cross-functional collaboration
- High level of self-motivation and accountability
- Fluent in English
Key Relationships
- External: Key opinion leaders (KOLs), healthcare professionals, research institutions
- Internal: Medical affairs, clinical development, and cross-functional teams
