Lab Manager

We are currently partnering with an innovative life-science company that is redefining molecular identification to accelerate patient-focused drug development and diagnostics. This leadership role is based in Switzerland and offers a unique opportunity to shape laboratory operations and data workflows in a fast-growing, technology-driven environment.

You will be responsible for:

  • Overseeing all laboratory activities, including daily operations, method development and validation, scheduling, capacity planning, vendor management, inventory control, and safety compliance.
  • Driving end-to-end metabolomics workflows (sample intake through LC-MS(/MS)/IMS analysis, QA/QC, and reporting) for both targeted and untargeted studies.
  • Leading and mentoring a team of scientists, fostering a culture of speed, accountability, and operational excellence.
  • Translating partner objectives into actionable lab plans and ensuring clear communication of progress, risks, and deliverables.
  • Managing projects using Jira and maintaining accurate electronic lab notebooks (ELN).
  • Steering biomarker discovery programs, validating strategies, and ensuring timely delivery of results.
  • Advancing molecular identification pipelines, resolving unknowns using MS/MS libraries and complementary techniques, and collaborating with internal technology teams.
  • Building quality systems and SOPs to transition toward GLP compliance while maintaining rigorous documentation and training.
  • Defining data standards and integrating analytical tools (MS-DIAL, Skyline, vendor suites) with scripting capabilities (R/Python preferred).
  • Maximizing instrument uptime through preventive and corrective maintenance, implementing automation, and optimizing workflows via Design of Experiment (DoE).

An ideal candidate should have the following qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience managing mass spectrometry labs in high-paced environments (CRO metabolomics or pharma/biotech).
  • Expertise in metabolomics data tools (MS-DIAL, XCMS, Skyline, MassHunter) and proficiency in R/Python for QC and analysis.
  • Strong knowledge of untargeted workflows (feature detection, alignment, batch correction) and targeted quantification (MRM/PRM).
  • Proven experience in biomarker discovery and metabolite identification using library and structural workflows.
  • Familiarity with SOP development, audits, and transitioning from non-GLP to GLP.
  • A proactive, structured approach with a startup mindset; comfortable with Jira and ELN/LIMS systems.

What We Offer:

  • The chance to tackle one of the most critical challenges in translational science - reliable molecular identification and actionable biomarkers.
  • Collaboration with leading hospitals, biotech, and pharma on projects that directly impact patient outcomes.
  • High autonomy, rapid learning, and clear visibility of your contribution to patient benefit.

If this opportunity interests you, please apply!

NOTE: Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted. Candidates must have the right to work in Switzerland (e.g., EU citizens or valid Swiss work permit).
