Executive Director, Clinical Data Science
A leading, innovation-driven global biopharmaceutical organization is seeking an Executive Director, Clinical Data Science to shape and lead enterprise-level data science strategy across a diverse clinical development portfolio.
This is a high-impact leadership role overseeing a team of Data Scientists (5 direct reports) and driving the integration of advanced analytics into clinical decision-making, with a strong foundation in clinical biostatistics required.
The Opportunity
This executive will define and execute Clinical Data Science strategy, ensuring the rigorous application of statistical methodologies within clinical trials, while advancing cutting-edge capabilities in AI/ML and precision medicine.
You'll serve as a key interface with global regulatory authorities, helping shape data-driven strategies and influencing external perspectives at the highest levels.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic & Functional Leadership
- Lead and scale a Clinical Data Science function, with 5 direct reports and broader cross-functional influence
- Define data science strategy aligned to clinical development objectives across multiple programs
- Ensure integration of biostatistics-driven approaches into data science initiatives
Clinical & Statistical Excellence
- Apply deep expertise in biostatistics within clinical trials to guide modeling, study design, and analytical strategy
- Oversee delivery of high-quality, inspection-ready outputs in alignment with GxP standards
Innovation & Advanced Analytics
- Drive adoption of AI/ML, biomarker modeling, and precision medicine approaches to accelerate development timelines
- Lead multiple complex data science initiatives across the portfolio
Regulatory & External Engagement
- Represent Data Science at health authority meetings and contribute to regulatory strategy development
- Act as a thought leader externally through conferences and scientific engagement
People Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing data science team
- Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous development
Education & Qualifications
PhD in Biostatistics (strongly preferred), OR
PhD in a quantitative discipline (e.g., Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Statistics) with a Master's in Biostatistics
10+ years of experience in clinical development, spanning both Biostatistics and Data Science
Deep expertise in clinical biostatistics with demonstrated application in clinical trials (non-negotiable)
Proven track record leading a Data Science function or team in a clinical setting
Experience engaging with regulatory authorities and external stakeholders
Recognized expertise in at least one advanced domain (e.g., AI/ML, precision medicine, biomarker analytics)
Ideal Profile
- Blend of hands-on statistical credibility + forward-looking data science leadership
- Comfortable operating at the intersection of clinical development, regulatory strategy, and advanced analytics
- Proven ability to build and lead high-performing teams while influencing at the executive level
