Company Overview

Our client is a commercial-stage, scaling oncology biopharmaceutical company focused on advancing innovative science and addressing areas of significant unmet patient need. The organization combines the agility and entrepreneurial mindset of a growing biotechnology company with the resources and long-term perspective of a global pharmaceutical business.

As the company continues to expand its U.S. portfolio and commercial capabilities, it is seeking a high-caliber strategist to help shape enterprise priorities, evaluate growth opportunities, and translate complex business questions into clear, actionable recommendations.

Position Summary

The Associate Director, U.S. Corporate Strategy will be a high-impact member of the Corporate Strategy, Development & Operations leadership team, serving as a strategic thought partner to senior stakeholders across Commercial, Medical, Finance, Insights & Analytics, and Development.

This individual will help lead the organization's U.S. strategic planning efforts, evaluate business performance and investment priorities, and support high-visibility initiatives sponsored by the U.S. Leadership Team. The successful candidate will independently lead strategic workstreams from initial problem framing through executive recommendation and implementation tracking.

The role is well suited to an agile, intellectually curious strategist who can quickly build fluency across new disease areas, navigate ambiguity, and convert rigorous analysis into compelling executive-level narratives.

Key Responsibilities

Enterprise Strategy and Planning

  • Support the design, coordination, execution, and continuous improvement of the U.S. strategic planning cycle.
  • Help develop core enterprise strategy deliverables that align portfolio priorities, business objectives, and resource allocation.
  • Build a strong understanding of the company's disease areas, pipeline, commercial portfolio, and competitive environment.
  • Translate scientific, clinical, commercial, and market-access considerations into practical strategic recommendations.
  • Identify growth opportunities, business risks, strategic trade-offs, and potential performance inflection points.
  • Provide senior leadership with clear decision pathways supported by evidence-based analysis.

Strategic Analysis and Resource Allocation

  • Pressure-test business forecasts, investment assumptions, and resourcing plans against U.S. priorities and long-term objectives.
  • Conduct opportunity assessments and develop business cases using approaches such as ROI, NPV, sensitivity, and breakeven analysis.
  • Evaluate potential risks, dependencies, and alternative scenarios that could affect portfolio or business performance.
  • Integrate internal performance data, market intelligence, and competitive insights into strategic recommendations.
  • Develop executive-ready presentations that distill complex analyses into focused conclusions and actionable next steps.

High-Priority Strategic Initiatives

  • Lead cross-functional strategic projects sponsored by the U.S. Leadership Team.
  • Own projects end to end, including:
    • Problem definition and hypothesis development
    • Project scoping and workplan design
    • Quantitative and qualitative analysis
    • Cross-functional stakeholder engagement
    • Executive storyline development
    • Recommendation and decision support
    • Implementation and progress tracking
  • Operate effectively in fast-moving and ambiguous environments where priorities may evolve.
  • Design and facilitate strategic workshops with senior and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Continuously identify transformation, capability-building, and growth opportunities that can strengthen the organization's U.S. performance and long-term position.

Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Partner closely with leaders across Commercial, Medical, Finance, Development, Insights & Analytics, and other enterprise functions.
  • Build alignment across stakeholders without relying on formal authority.
  • Establish clear project governance, decision points, responsibilities, and success measures.
  • Surface risks and disagreements early while helping teams move toward practical decisions.
  • Contribute to leadership-team discussions with intellectual rigor, curiosity, and a bias toward action.

Team and Culture

  • Support a collaborative, transparent, and high-performing Corporate Strategy, Development & Operations function.
  • Contribute to team planning, offsites, goal setting, and budget tracking.
  • Promote high standards of analytical quality, executive communication, accountability, and execution.
  • Serve as a visible and engaged contributor to a growing organization.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business, science, economics, finance, or a related discipline.
  • At least 7 years of relevant professional experience, ideally combining strategy consulting with an internal strategy, corporate development, portfolio strategy, or commercial strategy role within life sciences.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently lead complex strategic workstreams from problem framing through executive recommendation.
  • Strong analytical and structured problem-solving capabilities.
  • Experience preparing research, financial analyses, and data-driven recommendations in support of business decisions.
  • Ability to synthesize complex scientific and commercial information into concise executive-level narratives.
  • Strong PowerPoint and Excel capabilities, including the development of senior-leadership presentations and business cases.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Proven ability to influence stakeholders and establish alignment across cross-functional teams.
  • Track record of identifying risks early, maintaining momentum, and delivering high-quality work in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MBA, PhD, or another relevant advanced degree.
  • Experience in both management consulting and the biopharmaceutical industry.
  • Understanding of oncology or rare-disease markets.
  • Familiarity with drug development, regulatory pathways, commercialization, and market-access dynamics.
