Associate Scientist
Position Summary
The role is a hands-on laboratory position. In collaboration with senior staff, the role is responsible for the discovery and characterization of bacterial strain candidates for further development into new biotic solutions.
The role requires expertise in microbial and human physiology to develop scientifically relevant in vitro experimental assays, as well as analytical assays and bioinformatic analyses to identify bacterial strains with acceptable safety profiles and promising health‑ and beauty‑promoting properties for the Care & Wellness product portfolio.
Your primary responsibilities will include:
- Responsible for assay development and screening campaigns.
- Responsible for laboratory technologies e.g. Omics readers and liquid handling.
- Safety evaluation of procedures related to relevant guidelines and regulations for in vitro
- Drive the discovery, testing and selection of bacterial strain candidates for further development into commercial biotic solutions.
- Optimization and development of analytical assays for probiotics with specific emphasis on high-throughput potency assays and ID methods.
- Scout for new technologies and expand the technical capabilities of the labs.
- Presentation of data and scientific assessments to the team and stakeholders.
Education, experience and mindset
- MSc in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Microbial Biotechnology or equivalent with at least 2 years relevant professional experience.
- Fundamental understanding and documented scientific expertise in bacterial physiology and gene-to-function analysis.
- Significant hands-on experience with development of microbial analytical methods and demonstrated expertise in assay optimization.
- Experience with utilization, visualization and interpretation of high throughput data analysis.
- Strong communicator and presenter of scientific data to peers and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Experience from the probiotic or prebiotic industry is an advantage.
- Innovative and curious mindset, who thrive at generating hypotheses and designing experiments to test these.
- Excellent spoken and written English is required, spoken and written Swedish would be preferred.
