Freelance Capital Procurement Buyer - Spain

We are partnering with a global Food & Beverage Manufacturing client of ours here at EPM Scientific who are seeking a Freelance Capital Procurement Buyer to join them on an exciting, long term project.

Overview

Participate in the organisation's capital projects and take responsibility for sourcing capital equipment and related services. Drive cost‑saving opportunities through effective strategic sourcing and supplier negotiations.

Collaborate with Industrial Management, Operations, Safety teams, the organisation's purchasing personnel, and global counterparts across the wider enterprise.


Core Functions

  • Actively contribute to the organisation's initiatives and support the implementation of relevant programs and strategies where appropriate.

  • Participate in capital project teams across all phases, including development, planning, execution, and close‑out, following an Engineer-Procure-Construct approach.

  • Develop and execute procurement strategies aimed at maximising value for equipment, materials, and services.

  • Negotiate and/or manage various agreements related to engineering services, equipment, and construction activities.

  • Prepare and evaluate bids; develop and implement approved sourcing strategies; and provide recommendations on supplier selection and use of established supplier pricing agreements.

  • Communicate procurement programs across the organisation through written and verbal channels (memos, presentations, letters, conference calls, etc.) and track spend to ensure alignment with strategic procurement goals.

  • Manage assigned preferred suppliers, monitor their performance, and track cost‑saving results.

  • Provide support to the organisation's plant‑level purchasing teams when required.

  • Participate as the organisation's representative in designated global sourcing initiatives, if needed.

  • Build expertise and maintain up‑to‑date knowledge for a designated group of indirect materials and services as assigned by management.


Skills / Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, business, or a related discipline, with a minimum of 3-5 years of indirect purchasing experience focused on capital procurement and project management/controls. PMP certification is an advantage.

  • Proven ability to drive procurement programs aimed at reducing total cost of ownership.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Experience collaborating with project teams using established project management best practices.

  • Ability to prepare reports that track supplier performance and savings.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively at all organisational levels.

  • Strong analytical and organisational abilities.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously.

  • Knowledge of the agribusiness sector is preferred.

  • Multilingual ability is desirable.

  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Lotus Notes, and SAP is preferred.
