A Leading Bio-tech company are looking for an External Consultant to come and join their International Trade Compliance team on a contract basis! This is an exciting opportunity to come and join a new fast moving project to make an impact.
External Consultant - International Trade Compliance
Location: Remote
Duration: 6-12 months (with potential extension)
About the Role
We are seeking experienced trade compliance professionals to support the deployment of targeted compliance acceleration missions across governance, policy, systems, and risk control. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a global compliance transformation initiative in a dynamic, post-carve-out environment.
Key Responsibilities
Mission Design & Deployment Support
- Define and structure trade compliance acceleration missions (e.g., governance frameworks, SOP redesign, R&D trade flows, broker oversight).
- Develop compliance frameworks and internal controls in key areas such as classification, screening, licensing, and valuation.
- Assist in updating and harmonising global policies, SOPs, and control documentation.
Knowledge Contribution & Risk Insights
- Provide legal, regulatory, and operational expertise in export controls (EAR, EU dual-use), customs, valuation, and origin.
- Participate in risk-mapping exercises, stakeholder interviews, and policy workshops.
- Review and simplify existing compliance documentation.
Process & Documentation
- Draft or revise process documents, playbooks, role descriptions, control checklists, and work-flow diagrams.
- Create internal training content, e-learning outlines, and awareness materials.
- Support the roll-out of compliance advocate networks and onboarding kits.
Business Partnering
- Serve as an expert resource for business stakeholders (e.g., R&D, Procurement, Logistics) during deployment.
- Collaborate with internal compliance staff and local SMEs to ensure alignment and feasibility.
- Advise on change management and communication strategies.
Candidate Profile
- 6+ years of experience in international trade compliance, customs, or export controls.
- Expertise in HTS/ECCN classification, SPL screening, origin, licensing, or valuation.
- Strong documentation and SOP-writing skills.
- Excellent collaboration and stakeholder engagement abilities.
- Familiarity with SAP GTS or global ERP systems is a plus.
- English fluency required; additional languages are a plus.
- Experience in consulting, secondments, or project-based roles in multinational Life Sciences or Medical Devices environments is highly desirable.
