Business Development Manager/Director, CME

Business Development (Manager/Director), CME

EPM is partnering with a growing, nationally recognized healthcare education organization that's seeking a commercially driven Business Development leader to expand pharmaceutical and life-sciences partnerships across accredited CME/CE and independent medical education.

The organization operates through a portfolio of specialist education businesses with established capabilities across oncology, cardiovascular and cardio-renal-metabolic medicine, women's health, ophthalmology, neuroscience, and other complex therapeutic areas. Its platform combines accredited education, interprofessional learning, global capabilities, digital and live programming, innovative microlearning formats, and measurable outcomes.

This is an opportunity to sell a broad and differentiated education portfolio rather than a single service line. The successful candidate will have access to experienced educational strategists, scientific teams, digital capabilities, and specialist therapeutic-area brands to develop competitive, outcomes-focused solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build and expand relationships with pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, and diagnostic supporters.
  • Develop a targeted business-development strategy across independent medical education, CME/CE, and related educational solutions.
  • Identify funding priorities, educational gaps, grant opportunities, and RFPs within strategic accounts.
  • Grow existing supporter relationships while developing new relationships across medical affairs, IME, grants, and education functions.
  • Collaborate with educational strategy, medical, outcomes, and program teams to develop compelling grant concepts and proposals.
  • Lead supporter meetings, capabilities presentations, and consultative discussions.
  • Maintain an accurate opportunity pipeline, account-development plan, and revenue forecast.
  • Support renewals and identify opportunities to expand successful programs across therapeutic areas, audiences, and formats.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of accreditation requirements and the necessary independence between supporters and accredited education.
  • Represent the organization at relevant industry meetings, congresses, and grant-focused events.

Key Qualifications:

  • 3-8+ years of business development, supporter relations, grant strategy, account management, or educational strategy experience.
  • Direct experience within CME/CE, independent medical education, medical education, or a closely related healthcare communications environment.
  • Established relationships within pharmaceutical or biotechnology medical affairs, independent medical education, grants, or educational-support functions.
  • Demonstrated success generating and growing a revenue portfolio, ideally exceeding $1M annually.
  • Experience developing business with large pharmaceutical organizations is strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of educational grants, RFPs, needs assessments, gap analyses, accreditation, outcomes measurement, and compliant supporter engagement.
  • Ability to communicate credibly with both scientific and commercial stakeholders.
  • Consultative and relationship-driven approach, with the ability to translate supporter priorities into differentiated educational concepts.
  • Strong forecasting, pipeline management, presentation, and negotiation skills.
