Title: Sr. Manager, Commercial, Sourcing & Procurement
Location: San Diego, CA
(1 year contract with extension possibilities)
This position will be part of the Sourcing & Procurement team, and lead the development of a corporate sourcing strategy for Commercial and travel categories such as Ad Agency, Meeting & Events, Media, Patient Services, Market Research, Commercial Operations, and Corporate Travel. Responsibilities include: leadership and operational management of Commercial strategic sourcing activities ensuring the right capabilities, guidance, resources, and accountabilities are in place. Development and implementation of strategic sourcing plans for Commercial subcategories. This position leads the identification, assessment, selection, negotiation, execution of contracts and relationship with vendors supporting Commercial teams, and will contribute to the corporate sourcing & procurement policies and systems, best-practices, compliance reporting and financial tracking. It requires working closely with multiple internal and external partners from Commercial and other functions such as Medical Affairs to facilitate and optimize the strategic sourcing process. The individual will also be responsible for improving insight into emerging vendor capabilities and external sourcing practices in Commercial categories. This role will be based in San Diego, CA
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Serve as the subject matter expert to develop Commercial sourcing strategy, optimize the vendor basis, and continue improving the vendor performance from both strategic and operational perspective
- Strong track record of identifying saving opportunities and executing sourcing projects, especially in the Ad agencies and Meeting & Events areas
- Build and maintain strong partnership with senior executives and department owners * Assess current Commercial vendors and provide insights in bringing new vendors as needed. Vendor benchmarking experience in pharmaceutical industry is preferred.
- Promote the use of strategic sourcing techniques such as vendor spend analysis and cost benchmarking to deliver cost savings
- Work closely with the rest of the Sourcing & Procurement team to align strategic sourcing strategy, goals, and implementation approaches. Contribute to the implementation of corporate Sourcing & Procurement process and policy
- Assists with the design and implementation of Coupa procurement system and other outsourcing tools (budget templates, saving reporting tools, etc.)
- Act as liaison between internal/external stakeholders on vendor contracts and budgets. Manages change orders, risk reward proposals, earn backs, volume discounts and other pricing terms
- Perform risk management for vendor contracts and agreements, working with Legal and other functions
- Collaborate with financial planning team on forecasting, budgeting, and saving reporting
- Influence a companywide culture of strategic sourcing and cost consciousness
Education/Experience/Skills:
- BS/BA or equivalent combination of relevant education
- Progressive experience with vendor, contracts and budgeting administration
- Experience working for an Ad agency and/or a Meeting & Events company is a plus
- Strong data analysis skill and financial reporting capabilities
- Extensive experience in managing cross-functional teams
- Strong negotiation, influencing, and conflict resolution skills Key candidate qualities:
- Strong category knowledge of Commercial categories including Sales & Marketing, Commercial Operations and Travel
- Ability to take initiative, be flexible, exercise good judgment, interface with all levels of management including senior executives
- Ability to multi-task and have an excellent attention to detail to ensure the most efficient and cost effective contract solutions are achieved
- Knowledge of sourcing and procurement techniques, as well as understanding of current state of market
- Experience in change management within complex organizations
- Strong negotiation, influencing, and conflict resolution skills
- Ability to interpret and comprehend contract documentation
- Good knowledge of supplier or third party management software
- Available for up to 5% domestic or international travel as needed Scope:
