Title: Medical Science Liaison
Territory: Midwest
A growing & cutting edge pharmaceutical manufacturer is looking to bolster it's Ophthalmology focused field team with new Medical Science Liaison's (MSL). Serving the U.S. Medical Affairs specialty business units, the MSL's will develop and cultivate professional connections with both internal and external stakeholders, including physicians and healthcare professionals. The MSL will focus on providing healthcare practitioners, clinical investigators and professional organizations the opportunity for scientific exchange and gathering insights in order to provide medical and scientific support for prioritized services and products.
Responsibilities
- Lead the process of identifying, developing, and supporting external experts and influencers on regional, national, and international levels across four core specialties. Develop external engagement plans.
- Engage with external academic and clinical experts, as well as social media influencers, to grasp customer needs, pinpoint scientific gaps and trends, and identify opportunities for clinical trials and business development.
- Discover new clinical investigators, particularly those currently underrepresented, and propose their inclusion in organization-sponsored clinical trials.
- Coordinate with investigators who submit research proposals aligned with our product development strategies and aid in streamlining the Investigator-Initiated Trial (IIT) process.
- Serve as an internal scientific authority for products and areas of interest, ensuring the translation of scientific concepts for both internal and external audiences. This involves training external speakers for promotional events, sales force training, and advisory boards.
- Participate in congresses, engage with external stakeholders, stay abreast of relevant scientific literature, monitor influencers on social media, prepare summaries, and deliver key insights to teams, including competitor analyses.
- Support research efforts by identifying investigators, fostering scientific exchange, and providing feedback and insights to medical and clinical teams.
- Address unsolicited requests for medical and scientific information in a timely manner.
- Leverage modern technology platforms to enhance efficiency and effectiveness while minimizing travel requirements.
- Ensure the accuracy and integrity of scientific data used in promotional claims and materials, if requested.
- Undertake any other duties as assigned by management.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Medical Doctor or advanced scientific degree (e.g., PhD, PharmD, OD, or MD)
- Minimum of 3-5 years of MSL, Medical Affairs, or related medical experience in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical devices industry.
- Clinical or Medical Ophthalmology experience is a must
- Ability to travel up to 70%
- Valid Driver's License Required
